The Clouds

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

A few weeks back I saw a big cloud the shape of a goldfish. It was night time and the spotlights from the buildings below it illuminated the fish pretty nicely.

Anyway, I like having my head in the clouds sometimes. It’s fun. I’ve been thinking lately what I want to do after I graduate (pending I passed all my papers without a hitch). I’ll be twenty-two. Most of my friends will graduate either a year or two later. So under the circumstances it’s pretty early.

I’ve been thinking about learning a language for a second degree. Asian language, for sure. Either Japanese or Chinese. I once thought of French because I was aiming for a management post for Shell in France, you see. I was in this phase where I really wanted to live in France (after I watched the Pink Panther and Bean’s Holiday).

But I’ve outgrown that phase. Now I’m in my I want to study overseas phase. Previously it was I want to work at Swatch phase, and prior to that I want to have a cat phase.

My life is so full of phases.

By the way, is it obvious that I was tired when I typed the post below?

Ta’ra!

Wunnerful Weekend

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

I’ve had such a packed weekend it’s actually fun!

But first of all - Happy 50th Merdeka!!! :D

Friday was Merdeka day, but I was already preparing to accept guests by Thursday. And it’s interesting to note that these guests quite frankly invited themselves. I thought I would do without company but I was already expecting my cousin. My housemates stayed for only one night, for Merdeka’s eve and left the next day. My cousin’s going to stay till Tuesday.

So. I had decided not to go out Merdeka eve, but I ended up going out for dinner anyway. It’s a good thing we had to go back before midnight because the streets are CRAZY after midnight. We had dinner (supper, actually) at a Thai restaurant nearby. My cousin’s friend came along.

We left near afternoon the next day. Said goodbye to my friends, and off to MidValley we went. The traffic was a nightmare on the way over. But we weren’t planning to stay long anyway. I just had to spend the 50 ringgit Quiksilver voucher I got from my brother. It’s only usable at MidValley and the value’s too high to waste. :D So I got myself a wallet.

Then we went to KLCC. This journey showed me just how unprofessional our service workers are. First, we wanted to go to KLCC with the Komuter to KL Central. But the Komuter arrived late and by then there were too many people it was packed to the max. I wasn’t about to be as insulted as to force my way into a tight train. We decided to wait for the next train, but then decided against it. We stowed our tickets and went to take the bus instead.

And geez was the bus driver helpful. There was a touch n go pad, so naturally I asked if it would work. I already put my card there and it registered when he sad the machine won’t deduct anything. But he didn’t have to sound so mad about it. It’s not like I don’t have small change!! Was it my fault the machine doesn’t work? If it doesn’t work why the fuck is it even there!?

Then, we reached KL Central. I thought we might take the city bus to KLCC, so I thought if the amount of the ticket is the same, then i’s no problem. So I asked one of the RapidKL staff. And I showed the old guy my ticket. And the cheek of him! He asked me where I came from with the ticket. I blurted out the bus came from Puchong. And - was he trying to be funny? - he said ‘use the same ticket when you’re going back to Puchong’. And walked off as if he just made the best line he would have EVER made in his life!

So my cousin and I abandoned the thought of taking the bus and decided to take the Putra train instead. Thanks to the stupid touch pad on the bus, my card hasn’t been ‘checked out’ and wouldn’t allow me entry to the Putra station. I had to buy a manual ticket and was the ticket seller friendly! She looked at me as if I was crap and didn’t even look at me as she handed my change back.

The only remedy I had that day was that there wasn’t a lot of people on board the Putra train. We got to KLCC with our patience still in tact. Our prime goal to go to KLCC was to eat at Chilli’s. We met up with my cousin’s friend and although he had registered his name for a seat at Chilli’s, we lingered round for about 40 minutes before we were finally admitted.

The staff were nice. It was such a relief. I mean, is it so hard to smile to your customers?!?

Later, we browsed around the tech stores and wandered into Tech Peace, also an Apple Reseller. The guy was so convincing, and so nice, he made me want an iPod Video. We stayed for a while and by the end of it, I was seriously considering getting an iPod Video!! He said there’s only one unit left too so I had to think fast. My real intention had been to get an iPod shuffle which I can bring jogging. So I mulled over it the rest of the day.

I made my decision during the train trip from KLCC to UM, where my cousin’s friend parked his car (He’s a UM student you see, but more on that later). He drove us to his cousin’s place where they are having a barbeque. Before we left his cousin’s place, we passed a playground and I went on the swing!!

OMG it’s been such a long time since I went on a swing! I was so happy! It was so much fun!! XD

The next day we went around Low Yat where my cousin was looking for a cooler pad for her sexy new laptop.

Vaiocrseriespink

Specifically, she’s looking for a crystal clear, three-faned cooler. After a while, we found this curvy pad which was white. Then we found out that particular type has a pink variety, though the shops don’t carry it. It’s also a little pricier. After much debating, she decided to wait for her dad to get it. Good choice :D.

Then, I too, was debating whether I should just get my iPOd there. We went to several shops. But I found out that none of the shopkeepers were too enthusiastic to sell. I thought, well, fine. You’re not interested to sell, I’ll take my business elsewhere. I almost bought it at the last shop. But the sales assistant was incompetent to say the least. He doesn’t have a clue about the iPod. We laughed about it for a while, then I walked away. He didn’t deserve my business too.

Then I decided I will only buy it at KLCC. Since the guy who pitched me was so good, only he deserved my business. I went today and although that particular guy wasn’t there, his colleagues were equally friendly. One was from China, the other is a fellow Sarawakian, what do you know! He’s from Miri.

So let me introduce to you the latest addition to my Gadget Family…

M3

My new iPod NANO! :D

I name him…Marimo The Third! Or you can call him Marimo III :D. You see, I don’t have a lot of green stuff. And the first green stuff I named was my mom’s BMW, which most of you are familiar with. His name was Marimo. Then I had a thumbdrive, which was green too. His name is Marimo Junior, so MJ for short. And now, this! So he’s Marimo The Third.  Say hello.

It was a good decision to buy it at KLCC. They gave me free smartwrap, to put the wires around in.

Smartwrap

And a free rubber cover.

M3side I bought the other casing so it’s easier to bring Marimo the Third go jogging. That’s the main reason I wanted him. :D I might wanna bring him for a marathon one day eh??

Although, buying a Nano was not my original plan, it’s a good balance between the shuffle and iVideo. I don’t need the video because I’d prefer watching movies on the TV or on Kuja, while the Shuffle is just…alang-alang.

Overall, a fruitful weekend. I’ve had my share of rude, miserable service workers, but last night I met a Dutch who’s teaching Dutch at UM starting tomorrow. So all you UM students taking Dutch classes next week, I met your teacher first! Hah!

We chatted with him for about…a couple of hours. Standing, at that, in front of BB. I haven’t had to discuss my country and religion in a long time so it’s very refreshing. I’m just glad he was fascinated by the country. He said everything is so relaxed, people walked so slow. When honestly I think KL is too busy for me.

Anyway, time for bed. Ta’ra!
