Recruitment Time!

First week and we already have assignments lined up for the whole semester!!

I have four subjects and so far went to two classes. One class was canceled, and the other class I missed :D. I mean, who goes to class in the first week anyway!? How was I to know that Marketing class would start on time?!

Still, it matters not. My friends told me you have to form a group for Marketing by this week and I quickly attached myself to SGWSS (remember her? the Sabahan Girl Who Speaks Sarawakian?). I became the last person to form her group. The others are her housemates and friends, as she told me. If she deemed them worthy then it’s fine by me.

Then came SBM and HRM. You can have a group as small as 2 people or as big as five people. SGWSS and I linked arms quickly, then recruited Khaye as a third person. We are hoping to keep the number to just us. The other two shared my opinion. We are peaceful together and want to score good grades. Taking on another would only disturb our ‘balance’.

And then it was HRM. The group must have 5 people, but with a twist! You must include people from the other courses as well. There are three courses in the class: BABM (thats me), BET and MOT (not sure what this means). Since Khaye was conveniently sitting beside me, we automatically recruited each other. It was a funny sight. I gave her a look. She shrugged. And it was official.

Then we needed people from other courses. She immediately pointed to the guy sitting a chair away from me. He was from MOT,  and there was only 5 MOTs in our class. Which means, one group will not have an MOT, pending they all spread out in different groups. Then she said "He’s in MOT, let’s grab him before anyone else can!". And I’m telling you, if it wasn’t because of me sitting between her and him, she would have literally grabbed him. But we acted civil and I asked him nicely if he wanted to join. He said okay. He didn’t ditch the class mid-way and didn’t fall asleep either, so he’s a pretty good candidate to begin with. Then Khaye spotted another guy sitting alone in the next row. She didn’t know him, but knew enough that he was in BET (she has a very keen eye it seems…). She called over and asked him to join our group. He said yes.  And it was pretty quick too. Normally I wouldnt join a group of people I don’t know. But I guess he, the guy, wasn’t very close to his coursemates to begin with anyway.

So now there’s four of us: 2 BABMs, 1 MOT and 1 BET.

Then I looked in front, pretending to listen while I sift through The Star the lecturer had passed over to us to look at the Classifields section. Shirley was looking over her shoulder and smiled at me. I knew what that meant. She had given me a similar look before. It meant "wanna group up, you and me?" and when she gave me that look it also implied that she left the decision to choose the other group members up to me. Do I always have that affect on people I wonder.

I smiled back and nodded okay. Then I proceeded to SMS her our current line up. She said okay. Later on the lecturer said we should give her our name list next week. By that time I could have given her our name list by the end of class.

Our final line up for HRM was: 2 BABM, 2 BET, and 1 MOT. I had earlier wanted to recruit Shirley as our BET rep and get SGWSS to fill the fifth slot, but I suppose this lineup is better. If we had gone with my earlier decision, it would be unfair to our sole guy member and MOT rep hehehe. After all, our lecturer said, when selecting employees for a corporation, you must always have a healthy ratio of men and women. To be politically correct, hehehe.

So thanks to us taking on two BETs, there will be a couple of groups without them. :D In addition, we were the first group to be formed while the others were still trying to figure out how to approach the other strangers in class. I had learned many a valuable lessons from my last group assignments; the early bird gets the worm. When your class is small, the good people are few and they don’t linger long. So grab them as fast as you can!

Man, my recruitment saga is so interesting. I have confident with my 3-person group, but the other two would need a little adjusting. But they would surely be better than my last sem’s group from hell.  And besides, it’s a good opportunity to get to know new people eh? Like my lecturer said, it’s all about networking!

Networking. Hehehehehehe.

Ta’ra!
