Rainforest World Music Festival
Was awesome! I’m glad I went, even though I had some inner reservations beforehand. But I went, and I was happy about it :D.
At first I thought it was just going to be a big concert with a lot of exotic songs playing (and exotic musicians). But it turned out to be a whole festival! Which means, they have dance workshops, stalls selling food, souvenirs and other activities.
I went with my sisters and her friend. Who seemed more ready for the beach than the festival.
If only I could wear shorts too.
The picture was actually taken after everything was over and we had to walk back to the car. Cars were not allowed past Santubong Resort you see, so you can only park along the way from the entrance gate to somwehre just before the resort’s car park. Then, you have to walk all the way up the hill to the lobby where they have shuttle services to and from the Cultural village.
A very good move by the organizers if you ask me. So long as you’re patient that is.
But we didn’t complain about it. It was for the greater good if you ask me.
Anyway, there were shops, and my sis had her face painted on with those Iban motives with a blue metallic brush.
And no, I didn’t bother taking a picture of that coz she took too much of it herself already. Ii woulda have my face painted on too if not because I wore a cream colored veil and won’t go too well with the ink.
We went around the show houses, but didn’t go in, because, really, what’s the point? I’ve been there often enough to know what’s inside.
One thing I noticed is that, whenever you go to a festival like this, you’d expect a lot of water bottles and rubbish littering the place. But the whole area was surprisingly clean! There was no heaps of rubbish all over the place, except for the ever-present dead leaves. Then I thought to myself, if this was KL, this place would sooner resemble a dumspter! It makes me proud to be there, and from the hosting state XD.
It helped too that there was a lot of rubbish bins at about every 4-5 meters. And then, there was the common eating area. You have the food mart, which is an area surrounded by food stalls with a common eating area in the middle consisted of long tables and chairs. The tables were cleaned almost as soon as the leftovers were abandoned by their owners, so there was ample of space for everyone all the time.
And of course, it’s not the music festival without the concert.
The stage is just behind that, but for now its being dimmed because the focus is the crowd. I didn’t bother going into the heart of it because there were people spraying beer over the crowd and that’s…not fun.
It’s just fun watching other people so engrossed in their dancing though hahaha! I even saw this old Indian couple dancing in the middle of the crowd! The area they were in was where people mostly sat, so they stuck out and it’s so fun! I took a picture, but it was too blurry to see D:.
It would be so fun to be one of those people perched on someone else’s shoulders too XD.
I need to get a strong boyfriend one day :D.
I met a lot of old faces too at the festival. I even met Owen! Despite being on the brink of being drunk he recognized me! Surprise, surprise.
I was expecting a lot of drunkards on the way back, as we were queuing back for the shuttle van. But except for one very high lady, who obviously took pills with her beer, other people were quite sober. They’ve had a few cans obviously, but none drunk enough to really lose their minds.
Though we did see a guy sprawled drunk on the boot of his car in the parking lot.
Anyway, fun times it was. Maybe I should go back next year eh? Definitely an event to go to at least once.
Ta’ra!
