I’ll never be a lawyer
For obvious reasons of course. Law books always use long sentences. A sentence can be three or four lines long and it would still haven’t proven its points yet. I have to read them at least twice to truly understand the meaning. And I am often compelled to re-write them into sentences that I understand. Or I try to make them as fool-proof as possible.
I wonder, if even I am having trouble understand these things, what about the others? Especially them lamers who always pretended they understood things when they actually don’t have a clue.
Is that why people in class always burbled their way through a presentation? Because they don’t really understand?
Ah well. Just glad I’m not in the same group as them. My one group member just totally saved me today. If she hadn’t reminded me I would have forgotten about a little cases review we have to do for tomorrow XD. I could jst salute her because she got a whole different source for her cases while I only have the textbook as reference. You have to admire such initiatives on her part.
Also, while doing the reviews I learned a couple of new words:
Expropriation: to deprive of possesion/ to transfer another’s property to oneself. Source
Estoppel: a bar preventing one from making allegations or a denial that contradicts what one has stated as the truth. Source
To be honest, I thought ‘estopped’ was a typo for ’stopped’, until I looked it up. I fear I might not be able to do my company law assignments if I am not hooked up onto the Internet because of my lack of a dictionary.
And somehow I need to get hooked up on some online journals and databases. Kinda makes me miss Swinburne. It was signed up to a vast database of things. Sighs.
