Harry Potter finally!
Saturday, July 30th, 2005I just got my copy of the latest Harry Potter book two nights before. And just finished it today. I’m not in any real rush. The book can grip you, I admit that and its a task resisiting the urge to stop reading. But I was bored and have nothing to do other than ramble in Swinburne’s discussion board. The book is good, albeit expensive. Mine is the adult version and the price was a whooping RM 99.90! O_O Is the children’s version less expensive? I heard from my friend his is a children’s version and it was 88.80. Or maybe "now its 88.80" He said something like that. I don’t know, I just didn’t want to buy it while it was still "hot" you know, because the price was bubbling, scalding hot even. The book was cool on itself. It came with its own paper shopping bag with the picture of the cover of the kid’s version. Nice really. Just don’t know what to do with it. I don’t think I want to part with it, but its not a nice thought to keep it there colelcting dust either. I have too much paper bags already.
…
I’ll just keep it there for a while longer before I stow it away. So, what do I think about the book? Heck - it was great! I won’t spoil anything and mention anything about the plot. You should read it. I even postponed reading the latest Artemis Fowl for this. I’ve had that Artemis Fowl book since before I start Swinburne hehehe. The story is more revealing that before. When I read the previous HP book, I was just poring through the pages, eager to get to the end when "all is revealed". Harry has quite a sense of humor too. Since he’s well, quite the ripe teenager in this one. All in all, you get more clarification in here and there’s no "gripping" mystery other than the prince’s identity that’s to be revealed in the end. Harry pretty much figure everything out himself. I’d say the ending brings MUCH momentum for the final installment of the book. A fitting ending, I’d say, but many would contradict it. *shrugs* what care I?
Okay, before I say too much about Harry Potter’s plot, I’d better stop. So, if you’re a fan of this guy, read it. And if you havent read it, don’t go rushing off to the stores to buy it unless you’re REALLY itching to read it. I would advice you to wait a while longer. At leats until the price drops for the sake of ownership pride. Or you can borrow it from your friends. Honestly, I don’t see the point of pre-ordering the book, then lining up from 5am to get your copy, and paying the most expensive price for the book! The book is most expensive when its out. It will take a while before they lower the price and wait till the hysteria dies down.
Seriously, when I first saw the 3rd HP book some time in 1998, I didn’t think much of it. It was my cousin’s who had a taste for such things. (for some reason, most of the books he bought later became best sellers!) I borrowed the 3rd book from him out of boredom really, then intrigued in reading the first two. I read in the order of 3-2-1-4. I’m not sure if I read 1 or 4 first though. I think 1 first. And as you all know, the fourth book was very, very thick, like a giant dictionary. What a sight I was carrying that book around school! But people still didn’t know about it then. No, no. Not until the first movie was due that people start getting notice. Here, at least, in Malaysia and South East Asia in general. Malaysians are not known as enthusiastic readers. And while I have finished all four books, people around me were scrambling around to get hold of the all the previous books. Talk about late!
And the Potter Mania spreads across the nation.
I read book 2,3 and 4 from my cousin. But after that, I start buying them all for collection’s sake. Funny enough, I never read my own copies of said books. They are mostly borrowed from me. They were read many times. And all not by me hahahaha.
On an unrelated story, my sister came back from a three-day shopping trip in KL yesterday night, bearing gifts! Yes, my bucket of M&Ms now sit on my desk, all bright and yellow. Im not a big fan of M&Ms and had asked for them in those little packs they only sell in bulk at the airport. But she said they were out of that and just bought me the bucket one. Oh well. Its better than nothing, right? Have to keep it out of sight from my baby sister somehow. She’s been nagging to get some. I’m mean so I didn’t conform :P.
You guys don’t mind if I ramble on? Okay. I talked to my friend Weenee the other day about horoscopes. She said she believes them and often check the horoscopes. I said I don’t believe it 100% especially the daily predictions. I decide it myself at the end of the day. And friendster horoscope is totally OUT OF THE QUESTION! So I told her I’m a fan of metaphysics but not a big fan like my other friend. I just use horoscopes as part of my people reading skills. You cant predetermine a person’s behavior without meeting them but you can try and match your findings. Myself, I’m a Taurus but my ascending sign is Aries. Since I was born early in the Taurean month, I still retain several characteristics from Aries. Its more complicated that this, of course, and anyone reading it would find its half true and half not. You can easily relate yourself to descriptions of other zodiacs too. But people have their own tendency and they dont realize it. I look at the main traits of each zodiac and compare it to the person. Sure enough, they fit. Surprisingly. Though not a whole. Nobody is a 100% Virgo or Leo or Scorpio. EVeryone is a mix of each, but still maintaining their base personality. Freaky huh? It also largely depending on the year you were born, your sex, time of birth and ummm something else. Its just fun. Just dont take it too seriously. God told us not to believe in predictions. Which is true, I wont contradict that. I mean, if a Seer told you you were to become really poor in four days and you believe it, you will really be poor. Say, that you were really going to be poor in four days, but you werent told about, theres no way of knowing. There’s little chance your destiny would conform.
Its all in the mind. Youa re what you believe. If you believe in a pre-determined future, you will definitely be going towards it. If I were to lie to a boy and say in 20 years he’ll be prime minister and he wholly believe it, mind you, he will be. Or if not a PM, close to that. Be that deaf frog and just do what you want regardless of what your "pre-determined destiny" is. You might cant change how you’re going to die, but at least, before that time, do as many deeds as you can, help as many people, die in dignity, and remembered, in memory of the living.
I said some noble stuff. :/. But yeah, thats about it. I still say getting rich is my birthright. Not because someone told me. But because I believe it. Nobody told me that because they have no guarantee about it. No large inheritance to pass down to me. No, its all in my mind. Yes, for now it is. I will it so. I will be a multi-billionaire. You just wait! *evil laugh*
I’m currently talking to an old friend of mine on MSN. Its been a while so Im typing this blog and listening to her story. And what a story it is! Now I must stop. Blab too much already. Must be my longest post yet! See ya then!
